Service Description

This is for students who have completed both Genki 1 and Genki 2 textbooks, or for those who have passed the JLPT N4 test. (Or are at least close to passing.) This class will run on Mondays and Fridays at 6pm mountain time (Alberta.) Much of Canada is no longer doing time changes in the fall, so we will need to talk about this and see how much demand there is for doing the time change or not this semester. Classes will be recorded and posted so students can review later. There is no one "best way" to move from an intermediate learner to an advanced learner. So we are going to take a mixed approach and take class suggestions for interesting topics along the way. Here is a loose plan of what we would like to complete this semester: - One chapter of grammar from the Quartet textbook, mixed with real life examples. - One chapter from a grade 2 real-life Japanese Language Arts class - Choose one task to become completely competent at with lots of native examples and practice. (Maybe giving directions? Complex ordering? Making reservations on the phone?) - Learn to read important common signage. - Some Yojijukugo learning! - Class choice (maybe we read some manga, maybe we work through a short YouTube video, maybe we cook together!) The goal is to have fun and enjoy the ride. At this point, it's a very good idea for all students to stick to a good kanji and vocabulary side-quest grind outside of class. I think WaniKani for Kanji and Bunpro for their vocabulary decks are a great combo to keep levelling up! But you can use whatever works for you!
